At Maleny State High School we recognise that there are many different pathways and opportunities for students to reach their career aspirations. Our Senior School students have a range of opportunities to complete Vocational Certificate courses, work experience, traineeships and apprenticeships either through school or external providers such as TAFE, and trade training centres.  Our Year 10-12 students can complete VET qualifications from Certificate I up to Certificate III levels in a range of courses, which contribute to their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE).

Students and parents are welcome to meet with or contact either Head of Department of Vocational Education, Mr Rodney Wodson or Mrs Tania Mundt - Industry Liaison Officer to discuss options and support processes for gaining entry into VET qualification courses, school-based apprenticeships and traineeships, and work experience placements.

What is Vocational Education and Training (VET)?

Many of the Vocational Education and Training (VET) programs offered by Maleny State High School can lead to nationally recognized qualifications.  These qualifications are recognized in all eight States/Territories in Australia. This happens because, in Australia, we now have a national qualifications framework called the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).

Vocational Education and Training (VET) prepares people for the world of work and forms part of a broader educational network in Australia that includes schools, TAFE, Universities and Private Registered Training Organisations (RTOs).

VET offers students the opportunity to complete nationally recognised qualifications whilst at school. Successful completion of VET is education and hands-on quality training for specific industries and occupations.

VET qualifications are offered at Maleny State High School from the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) I, II, III, IV to Diploma levels in a range of courses. These qualifications contribute to a Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE).

VET programs can be studied as stand-alone academic courses or combined with on the job training in the form of school-based apprenticeships or traineeships (SATs).
