Maleny State High School has been welcoming students from other countries for 15+ years. The Sunshine Coast area, and Maleny in particular, is becoming an increasingly popular destination for international enrolments for many reasons.

Nestled in the mountains behind the Sunshine Coast, the town of Maleny has countless stunning views overlooking green valleys and the world-famous stretch of beaches from Mooloolaba to Caloundra. Queensland’s capital city, Brisbane, is an easy one hour train commute away.

Close to Maleny are the tourist attractions, Australia Zoo, where you can view and interact with many native animals, and Aussie World for amusement rides and Aussie experiences. There are many local rainforest walks, Mary Cairncross being the most famous. The main street contains many small cafes and restaurants, popular with both locals and tourists.

The school coordinates with EQI’s Holiday Adventure Programs for trips to famous Australian destinations such as Sydney, Uluru and the Great Barrier Reef. The school also organizes excursions to local attractions.

Maleny High offers a diverse range of subjects. A terrific benefit of being a relatively small school of 700 is that students are able to sample a variety of academic areas. Students have the opportunity to participate in unique programs, such as Agricultural Science on our fully functioning farm or our Music Excellence Program. With both an Activities Centre and a dedicated dance hall, students are able to shine in the areas of sport and performing arts.

Outside of school, students are able to participate in many activities. Students may wish to join our Interact Club or Environment Committee. Our Activities Centre has various sporting and performing arts classes held each afternoon. Students may also wish to volunteer their time with community activities such as Naval Cadets or the State Emergency Service. Take a look at the Maleny website for more information.

Students and staff alike enjoy the cultural benefits of having international students in our midst as it enhances understanding of other nationalities and cultures. Likewise, our International Student Program aims to give students a true experience of Australian culture and lifestyle. A dedicated International Student Program team work together to ensure students have the best possible experience during their time in Maleny. A full orientation program is delivered to students on their first day, and a “buddy” student is allocated to assist students to integrate into life in an Australian school.
